Fawcett Announces in the Fifth

I attended Jay Fawcett's campaign announcement this morning in Colorado Springs. All sorts of key Dems were there, including El Paso County Chair John Morris, Mike Miles, and 5th CD Chair Fred Hardee.

Mike Miles introduced Fawcett to the group -- and the Fifth CD -- with the simple phrase: "We need a change." He told folks that "We have a man who can bring that change to Congressional District Five."

Miles described Fawcett's history, including his military record (and his Bronze Star). Here's a couple more excerpts from Mike's introduction of Jay:

If you spend some time with Jay, as I have, you'll find a man that is intelligent and "top notch".

...

The Movie "Cinderella Man" was about a boxer who knew the odds were against him, but also knew what he was fighting for. Jay Fawcett is like that -- our own "Cinderella Man"

Fawcett gave an inspiring announcement speech, talking about the dearth of leadership in America today.

Poor leaders react; good leaders anticipate; great leaders think.

...

I watch what goes on in our country and I'm appalled at the lack of thinking. We're doing a lot of reacting. We're event anticipating a few things. But we need to do a lot of thinking right now.

...

Because people are busy screaming at each other, we don't have time ti find solutions to the issues facing our country.

Fawcett concluded by promising to run an agressive, "fun" campaign focused on the need for new leadership for America and the Fifth CD.

Fawcett's announcement tour continues with a Noon kickoff with veterans today, an open house at his Colorado Springs home tonight, and an announcement in Buena Vista on Saturday.

From the State Party's perspective, I can tell you that we are as committed in Colorado to a "Seven CD" strategy as Gov. Dean is committed to a "Fifty State" strategy nationally. We're going to compete in the Fifth CD -- and we're going to surprise a few folks there, I think.

UPDATE: I now have pictures online here.
