BREAKING - Rutt Bridges Out of Governor's Race
BREAKING NEWS -
The Rutt Bridges campaign has just released the following:
Rutt Bridges withdraws candidacy for governor of ColoradoDenver – Software entrepreneur Rutt Bridges announced his withdrawal from the race for the Democratic nomination for governor today.
“My passion has always been public policy, not politics,” said Bridges. “Colorado is a state full of dedicated people with hopes and dreams for the future. Campaigning for governor is not what I want to do with my life, and I owe it to the people of Colorado to stand aside and let others come forward to lead.”
Bridges has been active in Colorado politics since founding the nonpartisan Bighorn Center for Public Policy in 1999 and was instrumental in establishing Colorado’s Telemarketing No-Call List.
Bridges continued, “I have a passion for innovation and new ideas, but when you’re running for office you have to ‘stay on message’ and repeat the same tired political speak that polls say is what voters want to hear. I’m not particularly good at that. I’d rather work outside the elective political system to make a difference with my life.”
“I don’t think I have the skills or the stomach to be an effective politician,” said Bridges. “Getting out of this race will let me focus on helping pass Referenda C and D, so that we can keep a decent quality of life in Colorado.”
Bridges said that he will return all of his contributions and offered his gratitude and an apology to his supporters.
“To my supporters I extend my deepest thanks and a sincere apology,” said Bridges. “You have truly humbled me by your enthusiasm and passion for change. I know you are disappointed, and I assure you that I am too. I grew up the son of a rural water well driller and a church secretary. That I could even run for Governor speaks to the greatness of this country. Colorado is the best state in America, and I will continue to work with you to ensure it also has the best government.”
