O'Buckley Out ... Executive Committee In
Shawn O'Buckley has resigned as the State Party Treasurer. His reasons, from his resignation letter:
With great reluctance I am resigning as Treasurer of the Colorado Democratic Party.I have been offered a position managing a regional office of a national law firm. The position, however, is located in New York City.
It has been a difficult decision to reach, given my love of the party and my excitement for the years ahead. The reality is that I cannot afford to turn down this offer and prepare for the birth of my first child, which my wife and I learned of subsequent to the Treasurer’s race in March.
With the establishment of the Finance Committee and with the help of Jaimie Elkins and Darryl Tattrie, I know that the party is in a good spot for this transition.
With any other officer (other than the Chair), the Party could take some time and wait until the next meeting to appoint a replacement. However, FEC rules apparently require that we have a treasurer, and that we replace Shawn within ten days. So, we have to have a State Executive Committee meeting this Saturday. Here's the notice from the State Party:
Dear State Executive Committee Member:On Tuesday, May 10th, State Party Treasurer Shawn O’Buckley resigned from office. According to the Federal Election Commission, we must fill a vacancy for a Treasurer within 10 days of the occurrence (Federal Election Act 102.2(a)(2)).
As a result, we must have an Emergency State Executive Committee Meeting this Saturday, May 14th, at 1:00 PM at the State Party Headquarters.
Mark Ferrandino, a CPA, has expressed interest in the position. In addition, other nominations will be taken from the floor.
To reach a quorum and officially conduct business, we must have a majority of the body present. If you cannot attend, please send in your proxy (attached). State Party rules for Executive Committee meetings state that “any elected member of an executive committee or any member of any other committee may cast one vote and not more than one proxy” (Part Four, Article II, (D)(1)(b)). Please note that these procedures are different rules from State Central Committee meetings. If you cannot find someone to carry your proxy, fax it to the State Party at 303-623-2443 and we will make our best effort to assign it.
We will also vote to confirm Sherry Jackson as the new Executive Director. Her resume is attached for your consideration.
If you're on the Executive Committee, please, please, please do everything you can to make it to Saturday's meeting or to send in a proxy for the meeting. Mark Ferrandino has sent an e-mail to the Executive Committee, and I'll post that separately.
Note that the Executive Committee will be appointing a new Treasurer on an "interim" basis; the Central Committee will appoint the permanent Treasurer at its fall meeting.
